The Kentucky Board of Barbering is an agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Board consists of five Board members appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth. Four of these members are barbers, while one is a public member.
The mission of the Board is to protect the health and safety of the Commonwealth of Kentucky as well as to protect the public against misrepresentation, deceit or fraud in the practice of teaching and/or barbering, by having complete supervision over the administration relating to barbers, barber shops, barber schools, the teaching of barbering, and barber apprenticeship.

Position Description for Administrator
-Works with Board Chair and Board to develop and carry out the actions and policies of the Board as mandated by law
Responsible for: -All Board meetings, preparation of agendas, minutes, preparation of Board packets, accurate written and oral correspondence concerning KRS 317 and all Board actions and open records requests
-Coordinate and manage the operations of the Board's office including:
-Delegating and supervising the duties of agency staff
-Personnel functions of Agency including interviewing, hiring, training, annual reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations
-Supervise and train State Barber Shop Inspectors.
-Train new Board Members
-Work with Financial Analyst from the Office of the State Budget Director to prepare, submit and manage Biennial budget
-Responsible for approvals of accounts payable/receivable, and financial statements
-Prepare and submit monthly financial reports to Board.
-Work with all state systems including: e-MARS, KHRIS, KBUD, Info Advantage, and COS
-Oversee and review licensing process, files and records of all licensees
-Review shop/school inspection reports
-Advise Board and carry out all Board actions concerning violations of law
-Advise Board of complaints from public/licensees and negotiate/take action as directed by Board and Board's attorney from AG's office
-Advise Board and work with LRC to draft needed regulatory or statutory changes at Board's direction and for their approval
-Testify before Senate and House Committees and Sub-Committees
-Oversee preparation for State Board Exams including submission of exam applications, ADA exam candidates, exam scores and apprentice licensing period
-Develop and facilitate training meetings with inspectors and barber college owners/instructors annually or as directed by Board
-Attend training classes for new state systems and systems updates as well as seminars as available for regulatory boards and other training related to Administrator's job duties as approved by Board
-Work with/coach prospective school owners on the laws concerning the licensing and operation of barber colleges as they develop and present their request for Board approval
Salary of $38,000+, depending on experience

To request certification, please send a $30 money order and a letter requesting that certification be sent to the barber board in the state where you will be relocating. In this letter, also include your name, phone number and current mailing address. We will send you a copy of the certification and the original will be mailed directly to the state board.

From I-64 West (Lexington): Take the Hurstbourne Lane exit 15. Turn Right at the bottom of the ramp. You will travel down Hurstbourne Lane through 6 traffic lights (including the one at the bottom of the ramp) turn Left onto Whittington Parkway. Whittington Parkway is between 2 banks, US Bank and BB&T. Follow Whittington Parkway to the 4-way stop sign then turn Left onto Leesgate Rd. Take your first immediate left into the parking lot, our office is the 3rd building on the right.
From I-265 (Gene Snyder): Take the I-64 West Exit 25 toward Louisville and follow directions above for I-64 West.
From I-264 (Watterson Expressway): Take the Shelbyville Rd. exit 20A toward Middletown. At the bottom of the ramp there is a green arrowed light that doesn't change, go under that light and through 5 traffic lights. At the 5th traffic light turn Right onto Whittington Parkway. Follow Whittington Parkway to the 4-way stop sign. Then turn right onto Leesgate Rd., take your first immediate left. We are the 3rd building on the right.
From I-71: Take I-71 to the Watterson Expressway Exit 20A toward Middletown. Go through 1 traffic light, then a green arrowed light and 5 more traffic lights. At the 5th light (which is Whittington Parkway) turn right. Follow Whittington Parkway to the 4-way stop sign and turn right onto Leesgate Rd.
