Once Apprentice License is Obtainted |
 |
Once you have successfully passed your apprentice exam, you will begin a 9 month apprenticeship program. In this program any person employed as an apprentice barber shall, at all times, work under the immediate and continuous supervision of a licensed barber. Once you complete your 9 month apprenticeship the Board office will send you a letter, a barber application and an exam schedule. On the back of the application there is a section that the manager of the shop in which you worked will need to fill out. They must verify that you have completed your 9 months of apprenticeship. Be sure that they fill this section out completely including the dates you have worked under their supervision. They must put a date in both the From and the To blanks. Be sure that they DO NOT write to "present". The Board office checks to see that you have worked the entire 9 month period prior to being scheduled for the barber exam.

Working in a Shop |
 |
There is one very important thing to remember when you are working your 9 months apprenticeship under supervision of a licensed barber.
- You must be under the supervision of a licensed barber at all times. This means that when they go to lunch you must go to lunch, if they are on vacation you are on vacation, when they are out sick you must take the day off too. If you are found working in a shop without supervision, you as well as your licensed barber supervisor could face Board action which may result in fines and/or suspension of your license.
